Claire was extremely well behaved during her first visit to the Illinois State Fair. We got a good start Friday morning and headed to Springfield. Despite a little fussing about Chenoa she slept the rest of the trip. We spent most of Friday hanging out between the barrow show and the heifer show with Grandma Marge and Papa Wayne. The Angus heifers showed last and didn't finish up until around 7 p.m.! We headed to the hotel, checked in, and walked across the street to Bennigans for dinner.
We made Claire a nice little bed in the corner of the hotel room with a couple of blankets. Thank God the kid can sleep anywhere! In the middle of the night she woke us up making some really funny noises. She was kind of wheezy and gagging so I took her to the bathroom knowing that the gagging had ended up with messes in the past. She spent the rest of the night in bed with us and woke up smiling!
Saturday was a big day at the fair and we got to see lots of people. We didn't see as much of the show since Trever doesn't care as much to watch the steers. But, we did get to see Marla, John & Jeremiah and Josh, Maggie & Owen. We ran in to the Todd's when we were visiting the Butter Cow and John noticed that Claire's face was beginning to turn red like she was working up a nice present for us. Before he had the chance to warn us it was coming, Claire had EXPLODED all over herself and her stroller. It was the worst explosion we've seen yet! We wheeled her out in to the yard by the Dairy Building and litterally hosed her off! Once we used up all of our wipes and most of Jeremiah's, the sink was our only opiton! Thanks to our friends who run the Dairy Building and the ladies at the DCFS tent we had a fairly clean baby again! However, I'm sure we'll point that location out every time she goes to the fair!
Sunday Claire and I skipped church because she sounded pretty congested again. I put her in the swing and she was perfectly content for a couple of hours. We spent most of the afternoon at home and then headed for Mexican food and Wal-Mart in Rantoul. She was pretty fussy during that trip and hung out with her daddy in the car for quite a bit.
This morning she woke up sounding pretty congested again. We used some "nose candy" and it helps quite a bit. We sent her to the babysitters today since we are 99% sure that's where the cold came from anyway! I haven't gotten a call from Miss Mary telling me to come get her so hopefully she's feling better!
I didn't take any pictures at the fair, but I will say that Claire was amazingly well behaved in the heat and survived all the noise from the show ring.
We don't have much going on this week yet, but I'm sure that will change soon!
